People often ask why an understanding of hypnosis is so important. This is a passionate topic for me because we truly give away our power when we are not aware of how and where input comes or when and why our subconscious mind accepts it.
The programming we accept as young children (mostly without conscious choice) determines much of how the rest of our lives will play out and is the primary reason psychotherapies end up in childhood. But where else is our programming coming from, and are there inputs we are not aware of? Absolutely!
Our mind is absorbing data all the time; much we are not consciously aware of. The more we can decide what data we accept the more we control and determine the quality of our life.
Here is an experiment that you can easily do at home (this example is for men in their 40’s and 50’s, but you can vary it to any sex and age). These men work hard all day, then go home to have a cocktail, nice dinner, and some much-deserved relaxation. That puts them on the couch to watch an hour or two of television before going to bed. Here is where the experiment starts.
Take a notepad and pencil with you to the television next time and create three columns on the sheet of paper, one for heart disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.), one for prostate cancer, and one for stomach ailments (ulcers, acid indigestion, etc.). Now put a check mark in the appropriate column each time you see a commercial related to one of these diseases.
Everyone that does this tells me the same thing, WOW, I had no idea! They usually mark down 15 to 20 commercials or more. Worse, this happens right after a good meal and a few drinks, while you are completely relaxed and safely at home. Sounds hypnotic, huh?
Our countries businesses spend billions of dollars on advertising and marketing research and know exactly who is sitting on the couch with a few cocktails in them.
I am not saying there is anything wrong with capitalism in our society or the associated marketing that goes along with it; this is what we have chosen for our country. That is not the point because every culture, environment, and situation, has input that we need to be conscious of; to be aware of so that we can choose whether to accept it or not.
So, what happens in this situation? You are in a hypnotic state with a lot of repetition about these diseases being input directly to your subconscious mind. At the very least you may accept these conditions are a “fait accompli’ and at worst you are unknowingly programming your body to sub-optimal health.
How many areas of our lives are affected? Many. We are getting input all the time and understanding basic principles of hypnosis is critical to taking charge of our lives.
